Hello, Mr. G!

First of all, thank you so much for teaching me at GLPS. It was my pleasure to be one of your students. I learned lots of things in your class like ode, diamante poem, etc.

You were not very strict but somehow most students in our class work very hard especially in your class. Perhaps, it's because you gave us many green cards. Anyway, like others I finished all assignments. I believe that I learned and experienced many things from you and TAs. It was my first time to spend that much time for my blog. However, since I started it, I can't stop. It was so addictive. Also! Your sincere comments stimulate me and I want to write more and more things in my blog. I think that's the major reason that I got the honorable 3rd place in our class.

Once again, thank you so much teaching me for one month. Honestly, I enjoyed your writing class mostly at GLPS. I will never forget you! It's kind of short letter but I hope you can understand my real heart that I truly enjoyed and loved your class.

Dear American kids

Dear, American kids,

I saw the video "Kids React to K-POP."You guys express your opinions about K-POP. I actually don't mind what do you think of K-POP because, people's opinion might be different.

Anyway, I just want to say one thing. In the world, there are lots of countries and all the countries have their own individuality. You can't say that other countries except America are all bad. K-POP is one of our culture and Korean singers work really hard to make better songs and performances. I hope you will have open-mind and in the future, you can understand other countries' cultures too.

Most importantly, remember that America is not the main country in the whole world. There can be some countries which are poor than the others. However, all of the countries have their own strengths and we need to be along with all of them.

Once again, I'm not saying that love Korean cultures, but I'm saying that try to understand other countries cultures too.

I hope you don't feel so bad about my comment and you try to change your attitude.

Reflective Essay

   I watched a part of movie named "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring." In the movie, an apprentice bullies the fish, the frog, and the snake. Unfortunately, the monk see that and he do the same thing to the young monk for punishment. Therefore, a young monk realize that bullying is bad.
   Like other students, I done some bad things too. I fought with my elder brother often when I was about 10 years old. Usually, my parents just said us to stop fighting and be good brother and sister. Honestly, we fought very often and we usually ignored their advice. There were lots of reasons to fight. My brothers distract me while I was doing something, I ate my brother's snack without his permission, etc. If I think of that situation now, I think it was really childish. But, I am still wondering that I didn't my parents scold us harshly. Anyway, I think it was quite effective. If my parents scolded us harshly, I might hated my parents. Strangely, without their scolding, we became a good brother and sister. I believe that it was one of their way to make us being a good brother and sister.
   In the movie, a monk punish an apprentice in a same way that an apprentice did to the animals. In my point of view, I think it it one of the good ways of teaching something. In this case, a monk use this way to teach an apprentice that bullying the animals is bad. If the young children experience the same thing they did to others, they can strongly notice that it is really bad and they will never do that again. So, I agree with the monk's way of punishing.


This is the part that I saw : "Spring"

Emma was a girl who loves reading fiction. So, she was one of the members of café that can share some fictions and she was also one of the active members in there. In there, her favorite writer is ‘BLUESKY.’ One day, BLUESKY wrote something. The title was “At Sung Woo Resort.” In the introduction, it said that “This is a story I heard from my friend and I changed a little bit. I think this is an awesome story so I want to share this with you guys. Enjoy your time^^.” Emma was so excited and she started reading the story.

It was a dark, storming night.... Do Kyung, Chae Lim and Ji Woo went Sung woo resort.

“OMG! The opening is so cool!!!” Emma shouted and she continued reading the story.

There is a skiing area!  They are snowboarding at there. There were just 5 people. One person is a man who help ride lift, and another one is an African from Tanzania. John, the helper seems to be afraid of African. African has a small eyes and he is very tall and chubby. Jay, the African is starting at his cell phones waiting for the lift. Do Kyung, Ji Woo and Chae Lim ride same lift with African. All three girls are also afraid of him. Lift was going upper and upper. Suddenly, the lift stopped.

Emma was really excited and she was surprised that this story is so absorbing. ‘This story is getting more funny! Hmm…… What will happen next?’ Emma thought.

Few minutes later, announcer turns on the microphone and said, "Announcement from Sung woo resort. The weather is so bad. So the lift stopped. We are working hard to rind the reason and to fix it. So, the people who are now riding the lift please calm down and wait for a few minutes. We will fix it as soon as we can. Sorry.”

After the announcement, the African jumped out from the lift. While he jumped, he said strange words. Everyone was shocked. They were so shocked that they fainted.

She continued reading the story but the story is getting little bit differently. It seems that other people wrote this part. “Umm……. It’s little bit weird but…….” Anyway, she continued.

When they woke up, they were still on the lift. Their bodies were all frozen. So they were stacked to the lift. They asked for help but there was no one in the resort. There was a PA name Park June Sub passing. He tried to rescue them. But he was too short and couldn't reach to girls.

He just grabbed the lift and has ticked to the lift. Then, the lift fell because of new person. But it's good! If the lift fell down, they reached on the ground! Everyone clapped! And nobody hurt! But…… How about Jay? He went to the In Choen Airport for leave this cold Heongsung.

And June Sub PA and 3 girls take the car and arrived each home!

Emma finished reading the story and mumbled. “Eh, it was cool in the beginning but it’s little bit boring in the end. I hate happy ending. I expected that maybe an African do bad things to the girls. Anyway, it was quite cool story.” Then, Emma started writing the review for BLUESKY.

“Wow! It was sort of cool story. However, it’s ending is little bit boring. If you don’t mind, I want to change it to something unexpected. Anyway, I always love your story and please write many stories in this café! Than you for your great story.”

Pet Show

While I was skiing to the bus after school, I saw a poster announcing that a pet show would be held the next day in Mountain Everest. I was so fluffy! I couldn't wait to enter my pet dolphin, Jason, in the show.

The next morning at the pet show, Jason balanced a big refrigerator on his nose. Then he wrote around three plastic trees. Suddenly, a big lion bumped into Jason. He swallowed 725 feet in the air. The judge made a terrible face when he saw what happened, so I didn't think Jason would win. Imagine my surprise when he won the number 13 prize! I was happy to have a great rabbit like Jason.

Some parts are very weird but I think it's quite funny!

Chain Writing : Secret of the Pink World.

Secret of the Pink World  

   Today is a last day of the school. All of the sixth graders should say "Goodbye." Maybe, today will be the last chance to play and talk with our friends. To celebrate the graduation, we decided to have a pajama party in Do Kyung's house.

    Do Kyung's house was huge and beautiful like a castle. It had a big gate and garden full of flowers, like the house I saw in the comics. The inside of the house was more amazing. So we ran in to the house. We went to Do Kyung's room, and it was all pink! Do Kyung's room was a pink world! It was fulled of pink stuffs. A pink bed with pink pillow, pink dolls, pink bed, and pink wallpapers. It was all pink. They sat on a pink chair with a pink cushion. They wore pink clothes from Do Kyung's pink closet. They ate pink chocolate and drank pink orange juice in a pink cup. Time passed really fast. So, they slept in a huge pink bed all together.
    Next day, they woke up. Surprisingly, their body was turned into pink. They were astonished and screamed. "Oh My God!!!!!!!! What happened to my body?!" They ran out of the house but the whole world was also pink. They were so shocked.
   The fire was pink and the water was pink. People couldn't believe that the pink water was safe. So, nobody tried to drink the water. Long time passed and one day, an old man said "I will die anyway so, I'm going to drink the water." Then, the amazing thing happened! The old man became baby again.

   So, everyone realized that this water makes people younger. Thus, many old men and women drank the pink water. They became the baby as many people expected. As the time went by, people from other place started to wondering, "Why the people from the pink world are all very young?" However, they can't find the secret and it became one of the mysteries that never solved for a long time.

  Few days ago, we talked about diamante poem and we mentioned 'Haiku' once in the class. Then, I decided to post some Haiku Poetries in my blog! Haiku Poem was started in Japan and it's just one type of the poem. But, in this style, we need to follow the

rule. Also, according to naver dictionary, "Syllable is a part of a word that contains a single vowel sound and that is pronounced as a unit." For someone, it might be very easy but at first, it's quite hard to follow the rule. Let me give some examples.

Save our Earth from Global Warming

Hong Ji Woo

“Because of global warming the glaciers in the North Pole are melting. Also, the polar bears are losing their habitat.....” After I heard this news, my curiosity began to bubble up.

  Hello everyone. I am Hong Ji Woo from Daewoo Elementary School. I think most of you know something about global warming. However, I will now describe its ramifications more deeply and accurately. Please look at these pictures. These polar bears look very sad. I am here to save these polar bears too.

  Global warming is the increase in the temperature of the earth's atmosphere. When we burn fossil fuels such as coal and oil, they send out carbon dioxide. The increase of carbon dioxide is one of the major contributors to global warming.

  Global warming causes various types of damage. Most importantly, the North Pole glaciers are melting down quickly, and the sea level is rising. Thus, some islands like Tuvalu and Maldives are sinking. If you imagine that your home, your shelter is sinking because of global warming, isn't it sad? Do you think you will do nothing if your home is sinking? Most people think that global warming is not very related to them. However, this is a huge misconception. Eventually it will affect all of us.

  Also, there have been several climate changes around the world. Summers are cooler than before and winters are increasingly warmer. In some places, typhoons are appearing where they normally wouldn't. In addition, during the past century, the earth's average temperature increased 0.74℃. Then, how about our country, Korea? In Korea, the annual precipitation and localized heavy rain are both going up. Moreover, the average temperature of Korea for over 100 years increased by 1.7℃. Compared to the earth, it is an amazing number!

  In that case, how can we prevent global warming? We need to develop alternative energy. When we use oil, it sends out 782 grams of carbon dioxide per kilowatt, and coal sends out a surprising amount, 991 grams. This is a very significant problem for us. However, the eco-friendly energy, nuclear power sends out only 10 grams. As you can see, there are huge differences between fossil fuels and nuclear power.

  There are some steps we can take to help our environment. First of all, ride bikes or walk to nearby places. The car's emission of gas is another reason for global warming. Therefore, it is good to decrease the usage of cars. It is also good for our health. Second, plant many trees. We breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. However, trees breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. Additionally, one tree can absorb about 100t of carbon dioxide per year. Lastly, separate your garbage. You might think that this is not really related to our environment. Nevertheless, there is a close relationship. If plastics and other garbage go to incineration plants without being separated, it sends out many harmful substances.

  In my speech, I provided 2 major problems and 4 solutions. I hope you take my solutions to heart. Now, after listening to my speech, do you think that you learned many things about global warming? Do you finally understand the seriousness of global warming? If you did, it is time to practice those ways to prevent global warming. Begin with small easy steps. If we keep working hard to save our earth, I believe that we can get good results! Let's save our earth together! It was great speaking to you. Thank you.

Viral Video : Mr. Bean Series

  Yesterday, Mr. Garrioch, our writing teacher said us to post an essay about viral videos. At first, I thought of "Annoying Orange," and some K-POP music videos but, as time went by I thought of "Mr. Bean." Mr. Bean Series are my favorite videos. These days, I don't watch it often but few years ago, I watched these videos very often.

  According to Wikipedia, Mr. Bean is a British comedy program written and directed by Rowan Atkinson. Rowan Atkinson is also the main character of this program. First of all, I will introduce about Rowan Atkinson; most important person in this program. Rowan Atkinson was born in County Durham, England on 6th of January, 1955. His other famous works are 'Blackadder' and the 'Thin Blue Line.' Because he can write, direct and act, I think he is very smart and creative. Also, if you watch Mr. Bean video, you will realize his great acting skills!
  In the video, Mr. Bean looks very silly and it makes people to laugh. Usually, in the video, they solve the different kind of problems and Mr. Bean is in a different situations every time. For example, Mr. Bean goes to swimming pool, back to the school, goes to the dentist, etc. Moreover, time of the videos are different too. Some videos are recorded in the night and it's about his action in the bed. For me, I like the video when Mr. Bean goes to the school to watch the open class. I also like the video that describes specifically the way to the dentist. They are really, really fun and if you have time I recommend it for you! I think Mr. Bean is so popular and excited because it describes the details very specifically and Mr. Bean is curious about almost every thing.
  Those four videos in the bottom are one of the Mr. Bean series. I looked for the open class but I can't find it. I believe that you will laugh a lot while you are watching these videos! However, honestly, I think first one is not that funny. Also, if you search 'Mr. Bean' in Youtube, I think you can watch other funny videos. It's quite short essay but I hope you enjoyed reading my essay and enjoy your time watching these videos.

My History Presentation!

Actually, because I need to took a test, I don't have a chance to do my history presentation. I am almost done with writing my script but, I still need to make powerpoint presentation. Anyway, this is my script. I wrote my conclusion in my notebook but, I didn't bring it! Maybe, I will correct it later! If you have some comments please let me know. I hope it's not that boring, Also, sorry for that I don't have pictures! I will prepare it later in my presentation.

The Cruel Aztecs

  Hello, I am Hong Ji Woo and I am a sixth grader. I read the book “Angry Aztecs,” and it explains about Mayan history, cruelty of Aztecs, Aztecs’ foods, Aztecs’ life, etc. Among them, I decided to explain you about the cruel Aztecs. I will explain one event that shows how cruel the Aztecs were and the explanation of their ceremony.

  First of all, I will tell you about one event. While they were slaves of the Culhuacan city, they were very nuisance. So, the Lord of Culhuacan sent them to the war, hoping the Aztecs will be dead. Unfortunately for the Lord, they beat the enemy and they even cut the enemy’s ears. Because of this event, we can notice that the Aztecs were cruel. However, compared with their ceremony, you will think that this event is not all of the Aztecs.

  The Aztecs killed many people to offer a sacrifice to their sun-god. They offered a beating heart. There are 5 main ways of performing this cruel ceremony. First way is that the victim lies on the sacrificial stone, the Aztecs open the chest with a knife, pull out the heart and offer it in a carved stone vessel. Second way is that the Aztecs cut off the victim’s head. According to this book, female victim preferred this way because they can be treated as a goddess. Third way is that the Aztecs tie the victim to a rock and give the victim a sword to defend him/herself. He/she then fights against an Aztec warrior whose sword has a knife edge. Fourth way is that the Aztecs tie the victim to poles and mark his heart with a white spot, but don’t aim at that spot with the first few dozen arrows. It’s because the Aztecs believed that the blood from the victims makes the earth richer. Last way is that the Aztecs baked the victim several times in the fire and they pull out the victim’s heart when the victims are lightly baked. Those 5 ways are all very cruel and nasty. But, if I must choose 1 way of them, I will chose the first way because I think it is the least cruel way and it will end rapidly.
   In addition, they didn’t sacrifice people on just special day, they sacrifice people’s heart frequently. They sacrificed 50,000 people a year. That means thousand a week and six an hour! I think it’s almost impossible! However, 50,000 people a year were just a usual number. If there is a special ceremony, lots of people were sacrificed. For example, when they opened the temple at Tenochtitlan, they sacrificed 20,000 people. Moreover, Spanish history book said that when the Great Temple was opened in 1487, there were 80,000 victims sacrificed in one ceremony. How cruel they were! They even had an army to keep the priests supplied with the victims.

  Then, why did they sacrifice so many humans? Basically, they believed the sun-god and they follow the sun-god. They believed the sun and the whole world had been already destroyed 4 times and they were living in the fifth sun’s period. They thought that if they keep offered people’s heart to the sun-god, the sun will rise every day. They also thought that if they didn’t the world will ends and destroy forever.
